Open Question: What can I do to improve my college applications?

I am entering my Junior year in high school. I'm a student in IB (the program doesn't actually start until Junior year, so Pre-IB up until now), I have a 3.42 GPA, I am on my school's varsity golf team with a shot at being captain next year (I've been on varsity since my freshman year), and I try to enter local art shows, as I am very interested in that field (is this worth putting on the application). All IB students must do charity work, so I have been working on a few projects since the beginning of highschool. I understand that summer jobs can help beef up an application, but my parents won't let me get one, as most jobs cannot work around the rest of my family's schedule and they want me to focus on golf. I was in a performing arts club at school, but the club will not continue next year and my mother said it won't be impressive on a college application anyway. I plan to join writer's club or peace club (a kind of charity club) next year at my school prior to the golf season. Finally, some of the colleges I am thinking about are San Diego State University, University of San Fransisco, University of Arizona, and University of Colorado, as well as Boston University (still on the fence about that college). What else could I do to improve my application? I have been stressing over this since Freshman year and I really want to impress the colleges I apply to. My counselor helped me open an account on collegeboard, to let colleges know I'm interested and help to improve my application, but some input from others would be fantastic! Also, I am interested in art, design, and writing. I also enjoy Biology, but I'm thinking of studying to become and architect, advertising executive, or teacher. This might also sound kind of random, but I would really enjoy righting children's novels, I've written a few short stories.

Me and my friend Dave have just gotten into golf this summer. We are in Phoenix Arizona and he wants to go out and play a round of golf at Papago golf course this afternoon. Resolved Question: Federal government: obama has more time for golf than for Arizona?

The governor of Arizona has been begging obama to come down to Arizona to see for himself how vulnerable the state's border is to human and drug smuggling coming from Mexico. Why is it that he is not finding an hour or two to go down there to see what the people of Arizona are subjected to? Or can't he send someone with official capacity to see first-hand what the Arizonians are complaining about? Is there a hidden agenda for not securing the border? Or at least show an attempt to do so?
